Scholarship Rules

The CHAMPS scholarship is more than an award for academic excellence; it is an acknowledgment of well-rounded individuals who demonstrate a commitment to leadership and giving back to their communities. Our holistic evaluation process helps us identify students who will take full advantage of this transformative opportunity as they enter high school.

Key eligibility criteria:
  • Strong evidence of financial need must be demonstrated
  • Excelling in CSEC/CXC examination (not a requirement to be valedictorian)
  • Engage in at least one sporting activity
  • Very strong engagement in school service or extra-curriculars
  • Outstanding character shown by being responsible, respectful, and well-mannered
  • Specific commitment and plans for further education
  • One of three students nominated by Cayon High School

Application Process

We offer equal opportunity for qualified candidates through our efficient application process without compromising high standards of selection.

Timeline and Requirements:

Nominees need to be nominated through Cayon High School administration by August 31st each year.

Applications packages will be required to contain:

  • Completed application form
  • School reports and CSEC/CXC results
  • 2 Letters of Recommendation (1 academic, 1 character)
  • Personal statement explaining educational goals and financial need
  • Records of sports participation and extracurricular activities
  • Evidence of community service engagement
  • Family finances planning form

Our scholarship committee thoroughly reviews all applicants prior to the final selection process by October 31st. Successful candidates will be contacted directly and announced at our annual CHAMPS celebration ceremony.

Striking a balance between rigorous academic expectations and a more holistic view of student success, our scholarship program identifies and supports students who are not only high achievers in the classroom, but who also show promise as future leaders in our community.
